At Precision Applications, LLC, we have 2 facilities where we teach this Art; one is a 500 yard range in the Atlanta, GA area, the other is 1450 yard range in Milton, TN (just outside of Murfreesboro, TN).

Our Lead Instructor for this discipline is Rob “Shep” Sheppard, a former USMC Scout/Sniper and SWAT Sniper/Sniper Instructor.  Shep has been a military and LE Sniper and Sniper Instructor for approximately 20 years.  Amongst Shep’s many Armorer’s certification is the Remington 700.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Selection, care and maintenance of the entire system (rifle, scope, rings, mounts, ammunition, bipod, cases, etc.)
  • Marksmanship basics
  • Positional shooting
  • Use of a mil-based or other ranging reticle,
  • Ballistics (internal, external and terminal)
  • Use of optics (including adjustments and all other functions)
  • Multiple target engagement

In certain classes, additional topics covered include:  shooting under stress, lowlight/night fire, moving targets, shot placement, barrier penetration, stalking/creeping, on-call/simultaneous shots, CQB engagement and more.

Most of the targets used in the classes are either steel, or other types of reactionary targets for instant feedback.

Classes vary in length depending on topics being taught.  Classes can be anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks in length.

Sniper/Precision Rifle classes are taught on a one-on-one basis, in small groups, or in large classes.

Gear list:

  • Rifle capable of 1MOA.  Bolt actions and semi-automatics are both welcome
  • Quality optics.  The following features are mandatory on the optic:
  1. Finger adjustable turrets with audible/tactile “clicks”, MOA or mil are fine
  2. Ranging reticle, mil or MOA based are both fine
  3. Capable of reaching the maximum distance of the range facility being used

 

The following optics features are not mandatory, but are preferred:

  1. Illuminated reticle, if lowlight/night fire courses are being attended

 

  • Ammunition, usually approximately 100 rounds per day.  Ammunition count will vary depending on the exact courses being taught
  • Data book
  • Rifle-mounted bipod, or front rest
  • Sling
  • Rear bag(s)
  • Shooting mat
  • Spotting scope
  • Eye and ear protection
  • Clothes and footwear appropriate to the weather.  If it rains, we train, as long as there is no thunder/lightning.
  • If you are military/LE, it is preferred that you use your duty gear, body armor and other ancillary equipment that you will use on duty.  Train like you fight!
